Character Descriptions

Max - Assistant to Saunders - late twenties-mid thirties. Max is a bit rumpled and nerdy but is earnest and hard-working. He is in love with Maggie.
Maggie - Max's girlfriend and Saunders' daughter; mid twenties-early thirties. She is smart and practical, but yearns for something "wonderful and romantic" before she settles down with Max.
Saunders - General Manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company; late forties-mid sixties. Saunders is brusque and is an authoritarian with a short fuse.
Tito Morelli - A world famous tenor; early forties-mid sixties. Tito is larger than life, full of grand gestures, and passionate for opera, food, wine and women. He has an Italian accent.
Maria - Tito's wife; mid thirties-late forties. Maria is proud, excitable, and emotional. She speaks with an Italian accent.
Bellhop - Early twenties-mid thirties. He is shrewd, opportunistic, and determined to audition for Tito.
Diana - The Cleveland Grand Opera's lead soprano; early thirties-late forties. She is sexy and forceful. She knows what she wants and how to get it.
Julia - Chairperson of the Opera Guild; mid forties-early seventies. She is vivacious, charming, and passionate about opera.

There is a possibility that the characters Max, Tito, and the Bellhop may sing in the production. These characters do not require trained singing voices, but the actors should be able to carry a tune and sing loudly. Be prepared to sing an opera-like song, acappella.

Synopsis
Set in 1934, the farce revolves around renowned tenor Tito Merelli, known to his fans as "Il Stupendo," who is scheduled to sing the lead in Otello, produced as a gala fundraiser for the Cleveland Opera Company. Unfortunately, even before the star leaves his hotel room, everything begins to unravel. What follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identity, plot twists, double entendres, innuendoes, and constant entrances and exits through many doors.

Run Dates - Apr 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, May 1, 2

Matching Funds

If you are involved with the theater or would like to give a monetary donation, please check with your employer about matching funding. Many companies have a program set up where they will match the amount of money that you donate to a nonprofit oranization. Companies also have programs in which they will provide funds based on the number of hours that you volunteer. Pioneer, Meredith, Federal Home Loan Bank and MidAmerican Energy are just some of the companies that have provided us with such funding.
